“Think like you were the user, keep things simple. Less is more!”

This is the greatest learning I got when working on Babylon.js (a framework that we (Microsoft) develop with the help of our web developers community).

This is mostly where I learned that less is more. Indeed, you can think as a developer that some great and glorious pieces of code could be a huge addition to the project. But at the end of the day, only one thing matters: Is it something that will help developers be more productive? I met with a big numbers of developers who code for the beauty (or the glory?) of the code. But coding is not…

MIT Hacking Arts 2015

This past weekend, IMVU provided our API for the 3rd annual Hacking Arts Hackathon at MIT in Boston. As described by the organization, "Hacking Arts is 24hr competition designed to push innovation in the arts and entertainment field.  It’s all about connecting creative and ambitious minds with the necessary tools to foster collaboration in the arts through technology."  It was very inspiring to see so many creative minds gathering together to make amazing projects in such a short period of time.

We're very excited to announce that the winning team, Inside Art, utilized the IMVU API in their virtual reality…

From Unity Road Show SF

Our sold out presentation announcing the shiny new IMVU API and Hack With Me hackathon was very well received.  The Unity developer community really “groks” the proposition that we want them to create the next great IMVU experiences using our API and in return they will have the attention of our 3 million active users!

In the afternoon, we ran a tutorial with a dozen eager developers, getting them up and running on our API.  I have been amazed and humbled over the last few weeks as we meet talented, creative developers across the country.  We can’t wait to see…

Avatars Critical for Social Virtual Reality

I had the honor of presenting at the Gaming Insiders Summit this week on the topic of Merging Social VR with Gaming and wanted to share some of the main messages from my presentation with you as you commence the Hack With Me competition.

My perspective on social being critically important to the success of VR is largely based on my experience working with social 3D.  However, I started my career in games, still love games and know VR games will be awesome.  I believe that integrating social into VR games will make them more successful and ultimately the biggest…

Stewart Bonn UNITE Update

We are thrilled with our growing partnership with Unity.  This week kicked off a 3-day Unity developer conference, Unite Boston 2015, and the keynote this morning touched on a theme that resonated with the IMVU folks attending.  John Riccitiello, CEO, spoke about Unity’s goals to “democratize” game development.  They want to reduce the barriers to making a game.  Developers focus on what they do best and Unity does the rest.

IMVU is all about democratizing all content creation.  That has been our mission from day one and we take a fair and level playing field for everyone very seriously.…

Travis Laurendine, Hackathon Producer, Codemkrs

I've been a part of some pretty amazing API releases in the past and have been privileged to see what the world's most creative hackers make that unlocks a new paradigm for expression or experiences. Hack With Me features the freshly released IMVU Unity API and challenges these creatives to use their newly available avatars as vehicles for new ways to connect human beings with each other. I can't wait to see how we will be connecting in the future (at Microsoft's Folsom Laboratory in October!)   To register for the hackathon, please visit our devpost site.  If you have…
